Desa Wisata Kertalangu bukan desa dalam pengertian sebenarnya yang memiliki penduduk, batas wilayah, dan kepemimpinan. Desa budaya di sini sengaja diformat sebagai desa wisata (cultural village) untuk menarik kunjungan wisatawan domestik dan mancanegara yang berlokasi di Kesiman, Kertalangu.
Pendiriannya berdasarkan Surat Keputusan Wali Kota Denpasar Nomor 25/ 2008 tentang Penetapan Desa Kesiman Kertalangu Kecamatan Denpasar Timur sebagai Desa Budaya. Potensi fisik pariwisata yang ditawarkan desa budaya ini, meliputi kolam pancing, jogging track sepanjang empat kilometer (km), area flying fox, wisata kuliner, industri kerajinan, dan pemandangan alam berupa hamparan sawah seluas 80 hektare.
Desa Budaya Kertalangu masuk ke dalam tiga besar nasional yang menerima penghargaan Citra Pesona Wisata 2011 dari pemerintah. Penghargaan ini diberikan kepada pengelola daya tarik wisata yang berhasil menyelaraskan aspek lingkungan, ekonomi, sosial dengan baik.
Wisatawan yang datang berkunjung tidak dikenakan biaya masuk. Mereka cukup membayar aktivitas di dalam, seperti menunggang kuda pony, outbond, edukasi pertanian, memancing, memberi makan ikan dan itik, bermain di taman anak, flying fox, atau sekadar bersantai di bale bengong sembari menikmati makanan dan minuman yang tersedia.
Desa Budaya Kertalangu sering menjadi lokasi pameran, seminar, pementasan seni, dan atraksi budaya.

Kertalangu Cultural Village is not a village in the true sense of the word, with a population, boundaries, and leadership. The cultural village here is deliberately formatted as a tourist village (cultural village) to attract domestic and foreign tourists located in Kesiman, Kertalangu.
Its establishment is based on the Decree of the Mayor of Denpasar Number 25/2008 on the Determination of Kesiman Kertalangu Village, East Denpasar District as a Cultural Village. The physical tourism potential offered by this cultural village includes a fishing pond, a jogging track 4 kilometers long, a flying fox area, culinary tourism, craft industries, and natural scenery in the form of 80 hectares of rice fields.
Kertalangu Cultural Village was one of the top three national winners of the 2011 Citra Pesona Wisata award from the government. This award is given to tourism attraction managers who have successfully aligned environmental, economic, and social aspects well.
Visitors who come to visit are not charged an entrance fee. They only need to pay for activities inside, such as riding a pony, outbound, agricultural education, fishing, feeding fish and ducks, playing in the children's park, flying fox, or simply relaxing in the bale bengong while enjoying the food and drinks available.
