Keberadaan TCEC untuk menyelamatkan penyu-penyu dari kepunahan. Pusat konservasi ini dibuka mulai pukul 09.00 WITA hingga 17.00 WITA.


Wisatawan bisa belajar semua hal tentang pelestarian penyu, mulai dari tempat bertelur, pengeraman, penetasan, dan pelepasan tukik. Jika waktunya pas, mereka bisa ikut kegiatan melepas tukik ke laut. Kegiatan ini sangat digemari anak-anak. Telur-telur penyu menetas sekitar Mei-Juli setiap tahun.


TCEC berperan sebagai tempat transit bagi proses reproduksi penyu sekitar perairan Bali. Pusat konservasi ini menggandeng masyarakat nelayan yang telah dibina untuk mengumpulkan telur-telur penyu dari pantai saat musim bertelur tiba. Telur-telur ini ditetaskan dan dipelihara hingga berusia kurang lebih 3-5 bulan, kemudian dilepaskan massal ke laut.


Faktor pendorongnya karena marak jual beli dan pemotongan penyu di Bali, khususnya di Pulau Serangan dan Tanjung Benoa.

Proyek percontohan dimulai 1982 atas ide sejumlah tokoh, termasuk Presiden RI ke-3, BJ Habibie, kemudian resmi dibuka 2006 setelah mengalami pasang surut pembangunan.


Pusat konservasi penyu bernama Turtle Conservation and Education Center (TCEC) di Serangan berlamat di Jalan Tukad Wisata, Lingkungan Pojok Serangan, Sidakarya, Denpasar Selatan. Wahana konservasi ini diprakarsai sejumlah pecinta lingkungan di Bali, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), dan pemerintah provinsi.


Serangan disebut juga Pulau Penyu. Dahulunya reptil bercangkang ini ramai bertelur di sepanjang pantai tersebut, seperti penyusisik, penyu hijau, dan penyu lemang. Setelah reklamasi 1995-1998, jumlah penyu yang dijumpai mendarat di pulau ini semakin berkurang, khususnya penyu hijau.

Turtle Conservation and Education Center

Serangan Island also wellknowns as Turtle Island.  It is because long time ago, these turtles used to  nests  and laid their eggs along this seaside. You can find many type of turtles in this island. After the recclamation in 1998, the number of the turtle reducing.

Turtle Conservation and Education Center (TCEC) was built by some of non profit health environment activist, World wide fund of nature (WWF) and collaborated with the head government in jakarta. Their office is near serangan island, at Tukad Wisata Street, Pojok Serangan, Sidakarya, South Denpasar. This organisation was built to look after the turtles because the reducing number of turtles there caused by turtle hunts and demands for turtles meat.

TCEC is doing their conservation programme by providing the place for transit for turtles’ reproduction processes, it also educate the people surround the area to collect the turtle eggs and bring it to the conservatory to be nested. After 3-5, all the tukik – turtles baby are set free to the ocean.

Here, you can learn about the turtle reservation, starting from the eggs, nesting, hatching process, and release the baby turtles. If you come on the right time you can also be the part of the ceremony of releasing the tukik, just come around may-june every year. They operating time is during 9am to 5pm.
